Spiritual Director Training (MTC)
Canada two-year course
"Jungian psychology, the Enneagram and the mystics
have been very meaningful to me" — SD Particpant
In association with The Haden institute of Flat Rock, NC, this two-year course is similar to the US Spiritual Direction. The format is distance learning (Home Study) plus two convenient 7-days intensive sessions each year in residence at Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre in Niagara Falls, ON, Canada.
Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre (Carmelite Friars)
Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre, Niagara Falls, Ontario, overlooks the world famous Niagara Falls and is located on 30 acres with wooded areas, open spaces, and gardens. Nearby are paths that wind around the bluffs overlooking the falls and leading through to Queen Victoria Park, Niagara Greenhouse, and Rose Garden.
This ecumenical training program is for Christian clergy, Religious men and women, Lay ministers, DRE’s, school chaplains, counselors, and individuals discerning a call to the spiritual direction ministry. A Certificate of Completion of Training is awarded to those who successfully complete the program. (Continuing Education Credits are available.)
The Spiritual Direction Training program’s teaching methodology is didactic, interactive, experiential, practical, and invites reflection on the experience of Self and God. Courses are designed to help the student acquire and develop contemplative and discernment skills. Faculty presentations will include case studies and the student will learn how to use the verbatim report as a tool to study the dynamics of a spiritual direction interview as it unfolds.
The successful student will be a person who prays daily, reads and reflects regularly on scripture, theology, spirituality, the human development sciences, contemporary culture, and social-historical developments. If not already benefiting from spiritual direction themselves, students must be willing to seek and begin a guidance relationship with a qualified spiritual director in their own locale. Each student will be required to obtain two directees to practice direct (guide) during the second year of the program.
